Wojtek is a well-established variety of Kamchatka Honeysuckle(Lonicera caerulea), originally from Siberia, known for its early harvest and extreme hardiness. This edible honeysuckle is ideal for gardeners looking for an undemanding, hardy and high-yielding fruit bush.
Wojtek' grows as a compact shrub with a height of 1.5 to 1.8 m and a width of up to 1.5 m. It is characterised by its fast growth and spreading crown, which makes it suitable for smaller gardens.
This variety bears early fruit - as early as late May to June. The fruits are oblong, dark blue to purple berries, about 1,5 cm long. They have a sweet and sour taste with a delicate aroma and are rich in vitamin C and antioxidants. They are suitable for direct consumption, making jams, juices, drying and freezing.
Wojtek' is extremely hardy - down to -40 °C, which makes it an ideal candidate for growing in mountainous and colder regions.
Habitat: sunny to partly shaded,
Soil: permeable, loamy-sandy, neutral to slightly acidic pH,
Watering: normal, tolerates drought well.
The plant is resistant to pests and diseases and does not need special protection.
Wojtek' is an alien variety, so it is recommended to grow several varieties of Honeysuckle at the same time (e.g. ‘Zojka’, ‘Bakczarskiy Velikan’, ‘Vostorg’). This will ensure better pollination and a higher yield - up to 4-5 kg of berries per bush.
This early variety of Honeysuckle for growing in the garden is an ideal addition to any orchard. If you are looking for a fully hardy fruit bush with excellent fruit set, Wojtek is an excellent choice
