Prunus domestica 'Vengerka Korneevskaya' (Vengerka Korneevskaya plum) is a medium-early self-pollinating variety, bred in Ukraine by crossing 'Bogatyrskaja' and 'Volgogradskaja'. It was registered in 2002 and is popular because of its high resistance to scarlet fever, excellent hardiness and compact columnar growth, which makes it suitable for growing in smaller gardens.
The tree has a medium, compact habit with a narrow crown. It flowers in early May and its flowers are resistant to light frosts. The fruit ripens in mid-August and is medium-sized, approximately 30-35 g, with an oval shape. The skin is dark purple, blue when fully ripe and covered with a thick waxy coating which increases their resistance to transport. The flesh is juicy, sweet and easily separable from the stone, which makes the fruit suitable for direct consumption and for processing, for example for jams, compotes, drying or the production of spirits.
The variety is known for its high and regular yield. A six-year-old tree can produce up to 30 kg of fruit per year. It is also distinguished by its resistance to scarlet fever and generally low susceptibility to diseases and pests. It has exceptional hardiness of both wood and flower buds, making it one of the hardiest varieties, able to thrive even in harsh climates. It is also drought resistant and adaptable to different soil types.
It is grown on a myrobalan rootstock (Prunus cerasifera), which ensures strong growth, robustness and adaptability to different soil conditions. This rootstock is hardy and tolerates drought well, making it an ideal choice for this variety.
The 'Vengerka Korneevskaya' plum grows well on sunny sites and is suitable for organic cultivation without the need for chemical sprays. Its quality of fruit, high fertility and hardiness make it an ideal choice for gardeners and intensive orchards. This variety is valued for its reliability and versatility, which will satisfy even demanding growers.
