Prunus domestica 'Joganta' is a self-pollinating variety, bred in Germany by crossing 'Jojo' and 'Haganta' . This variety is known for its high fruit quality, hardiness and excellent flavour. The fruits are large to very large, weighing 55-90 grams, oval in shape. The skin is dark blue to bluish-purple with a distinctive waxy coating, which gives them their appearance. The flesh is golden yellow, firm, juicy, with a high sugar content (92-100 °Oe) and easily separable from the stone. The taste is harmonious and sweet, ideal for direct consumption, processing or distillation.
The variety ripens from mid-August to mid-September, allowing a longer harvesting period. Joganta' is characterised by its absolute resistance to plum pox virus and its general high resistance to other diseases, which makes it particularly suitable for organic cultivation.
This variety is grown on a Myrobalan rootstock (Prunus cerasifera), which ensures strong growth, robustness and stability of the tree. Myrobalan is hardy, adaptable to different soil conditions and drought-resistant, making it an ideal rootstock for plums.
The 'Joganta' plum is easy to grow. It requires sunny and warm weather and is suitable for all areas. It has a high frost resistance and is particularly appreciated for its reliable yield and the versatility of the fruit, which is suitable for eating, processing into jams, compotes, drying or making distillates.
This variety is also ideal for home growers professional orchards due to its resistance quality and versatility.
