'Alfa' is a very early blue table grape variety with impressive clusters, exceptionally large berries and a harmonious, highly rated flavour. This variety combines an attractive appearance, excellent storability and hardiness, making it an ideal choice for gardeners and smaller growers alike.
The 'Alfa' vine is a cross between Talizman x Velika. It has bisexual, self-pollinating flowers, which guarantees reliable pollination without the need to plant pollinators. Its growing period is very short - only 110 to 115 days, with grapes ripening in the first half of August. The growth of the shoots is strong to very strong, which ensures vigour of the grapes and a rich fruit set.
The clusters are large, cylindrical, medium dense and weigh between 700 and 1 300 g. Once ripe, they can remain hanging on the bush for a long time without loss of quality or flavour, which is a huge advantage when harvesting. The variety is also very easy to transport, which is particularly appreciated by growers who sell the grapes at markets.
The berries are truly spectacular, weighing 20-25 g, measuring approximately 42 × 26 mm, and are egg-shaped. The skin is soft, yet the berries do not burst even in rainy weather, which greatly increases their resistance in various conditions. The colour is dark blue, the flesh is very dense, crisp, juicy and sweet, with a pleasant and harmonious flavour. The sugar content is 20-21 °NM, which underlines the sweet and full flavour experience.
The 'Alfa' variety is very prolific, so it is advisable to reduce the yield by reducing the number of bunches per bush in order to preserve the quality of the fruit. The vines are also highly resistant to fungal diseases and frost, which makes them a reliable and undemanding variety for different climatic conditions
